Semarang, December 4, 2025 — Diponegoro National Hospital (RSND), Diponegoro University, held a seminar and training session entitled “Early Detection, Quality of Life: Optimizing Premature Infant Screening in Primary Healthcare Services” on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The event was organized to commemorate World Prematurity Day 2025 and was attended by representatives from community health centers (Puskesmas) and clinics in and around Semarang City.

The event, held at the Diponegoro Medical Simulation Center (DMSC), Faculty of Medicine, Diponegoro University, aimed to enhance the capacity of Primary Healthcare Facilities (FKTP) in the early and comprehensive detection and management of premature infants.

In his opening remarks, dr. Agus Setiyo Hadipurwanto, M.Kes, President Director of RSND, expressed his appreciation for the event as part of RSND’s commitment as a teaching hospital.

“Premature infants are at higher risk of complications. Therefore, the first point of contact at primary healthcare facilities is crucial for early intervention or timely referral,” said dr. Agus. He also highlighted RSND’s ongoing quality improvement efforts. “Currently, RSND has 164 physicians and specialists, with 50% of them being subspecialists. This year marks a consolidation phase for human resources and infrastructure to optimally serve referrals from primary healthcare facilities across Semarang,” he added.

Meanwhile, dr. Taufan Pramadika, Sp.An-TI, representing the Head of the ICU–CCU–HCU–PICU–NICU Department, expressed his hope that optimizing early screening would lead to more comprehensive care at the primary healthcare level.

Multidisciplinary Screening Focus

The interactive seminar featured four multidisciplinary expert speakers, focusing on optimizing care and screening for commonly encountered complications. The first session was delivered by dr. Adhie Nur Radityo S, Sp.A(A), who discussed Family-Based Optimization of Premature Infant Care in Healthcare Facilities.

This was followed by a session on critical organ screening, Cardiac Problems in Premature Infants, presented by Dr. dr. Anindita Soetadji, Sp.A(K). The next topic focused on Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP): The Key Role of Healthcare Workers in Early Screening and Timely Referral Toward Zero Preventable Blindness in Premature Infants, delivered by dr. Arnila Novitasari Saubig, Sp.M(K). The seminar concluded with a presentation on Early Detection of Hearing Disorders from Birth, delivered by dr. Dwi Marliyawati, Sp.THT-KL., M.Si.Med.

All participants attended the event enthusiastically and actively engaged in the question-and-answer sessions, reflecting the strong commitment of primary healthcare providers to ensuring a better quality of life for premature infants.
